Today Mark and Larry came over and helped Tom slaughter the two meat goats that were born last spring. I really didn't want to see any of the process, but since Tom chose to hang them in a tree right next to the house until he can take them to the meat processor tomorrow, I was forced to look.
This is the only picture I could bring myself to take. Maybe next year, I'll be braver or more hardened.
I had to catch one of the goats for them and I felt like a traitor. I used my come-to-dinner call, "Here goat, here goat. It's OK". Liar.

Sweetie,
Let me tell you something. You would be shocked by how many carcasses are found across this country - on a daily basis - from poachers and sick-minded jerks that kill for only specific body parts - or - just for some sickening thrill.
THAT would be considered Liars - not you. Your animals were brought to your home with the very intentions you followed through with - which is part of the God-given food chain.
Do not hold hard feelings toward yourself. This was God supplying a need in your household.
That's a good picture I can almost see them swaying in the wind.
This is not as sad to me as the puppy we left on the street last week who was undoubtedly shot.
Hi, new reader, here. Just chiming in with gentle encouragement. They had a good life and no doubt a fast, fear free death. I agree with WeldrBrat above, they will sustain your family now, what greater honor could there be?
Y'all are sweet to offer encouragement. The hardest part of farming for me, so far, is doing to the animals what must be done. But we do try to do it in the most humane ways.
Give them best life possible then make the end quick. No one can ask any more than that.
I agree..it WAS hard to see but necessary. Especially close up when I had to take those cheesclothes to them.
I guess for the goats you're going to eat it's probably better if you don't name them.
We had a great time visiting and can't wait to see you again..we'll try to plan the visit in a "non-slaughtering' time :o) The girls didn't seem to upset about it..just like oh, thats stinks and then they just moved on to something else.
